About Waffle
What products do you sell?
We currently sell cyber, life, pet, renter's, and travel insurance. More products are being integrated and will launch soon!
Which insurance products are available in my state?
Great question — find the complete list here.
Why can't I choose a different type of product?
We’ve selected what we believe are the best products on the market. This saves you some hard work.
Each product was chosen based on the breadth of its coverage (first and foremost), its pricing, and its relevant partners.

Why can I find a different product for less somewhere else?
While price was a factor in choosing the products we offer, it wasn’t the only one.
Above all, we want insurance to cover you whenever bad things happen. That means breadth and type of coverage was our key focus.

Why is a particular product not available to me?
Waffle is licensed to sell insurance throughout the US.
Unfortunately, some of the products we sell are still being approved in select states. We’re hoping it happens ASAP.

How does Waffle make money?
As an insurance agent, Waffle receives commission, which is just a percentage of the insurance premiums charged by our individual products. It’s the standard approach in our industry. By using Waffle, you’re absolutely not being charged more than you would elsewhere (that wouldn’t be allowed by industry regulators).
You're also not charged for accessing the Waffle app.

Do I have to download the Waffle app?
Yes. You’ll need the app to both pick and manage your policies.
Where does the name Waffle come from?
Insurance today is siloed. You have separate car, home, health, and life products. Waffle fills in those gaps. Whenever we used to draw this idea on a whiteboard, it always ended up looking like a Waffle.
It also doesn’t hurt that one of the founders is Belgian.

Pet Insurance
Why did you choose to partner with ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance?
One of our founders has a dog called Jorah. When he was searching for insurance, the product he found that impressed him most was offered by the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program. The coverage isn’t just broad, it’s supported by an organization we admire.
Why does my Policy show ASPCA® and Crum and Forster?
Waffle partners with the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program to offer its pet products.
These products are underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company, produced and administered by C&F Insurance Agency, Inc., a Crum & Forster company.

What’s the difference between Accident and Accident & Illness?
Accident coverage helps you care for your pet when they get hurt due to an accident. This might include injuries like torn ligaments, bite wounds, cuts, broken bones, swallowed objects, and ingestion of toxins.
Illness, on the other hand, covers the costs of major and minor illnesses, such as cancer, arthritis, hypothyroidism, ear infections, digestive problems, and urinary tract infections.

What’s Wellness?
It’s always best if your pets don't get sick in the first place. Wellness, sometimes called Preventative Care, covers actions that will help keep your pet healthy. This might include vaccines, flea and tick medication, heartworm preventative, and dental cleanings that help stop your pet from getting sick.
While Preventative Care comes with a small additional monthly cost, there are no co-pays or deductibles associated with this protection. Each service does have a maximum annual reimbursement, however.

How do I submit a claim?
We hope you never have to!

I just signed up. How quickly can I claim?
Accident & Illness have a 14-day waiting period after you buy a policy. Conditions that occur or show symptoms before coverage begins, or during the waiting period, are considered pre-existing and are excluded from coverage.
Preventive Care coverage starts the day after you sign up.

Why is there a transaction fee?
To be honest, that one really annoys us. Our partner charges a fee for paying on a monthly basis.
We’ll soon be offering the option to pay annually, which will remove the fee.

What if my pet is already sick?
Unfortunately, pre-existing conditions aren’t covered.
This doesn’t mean that the condition can’t be covered in the future, though. A curable injury or illness that is free of treatment and symptoms for 180 days will no longer be regarded as pre-existing, with the exception of knee and ligament conditions.

What's excluded from coverage?
Unfortunately, certain things aren't covered.
These include pre-existing conditions, cosmetic procedures, and breeding costs. A full list of exclusions can be found on our page dedicated to sample policies.

Life Insurance
What type of life insurance do you offer?
We offer a term life insurance policy.
A term life Insurance product provides coverage for a defined period of time. For example, if you buy a 10-year term life insurance product and you (sadly) die within those 10 years, your beneficiary (who you can choose) will be paid.
Luckily, your policy can be renewed at the end of its term.

Do I need a medical exam?
Nope! All you have to do is answer some questions about your health history.
(Issuing the policy or paying its benefits depends on an applicant’s insurability, based on their answers to the health questions in the application and their truthfulness.)

Will my premium change over the term of the policy?
Nope! You’ll pay the same premium throughout the entire term.
What happens if I get a terminal illness?
Your policy includes an accelerated death benefit clause.
If you become terminally ill, you can request an advance of your policy’s death benefit while you're still alive.
If exercised, an administrative fee will be charged.

Why did you choose to partner with Haven Life Insurance Agency?
Anyone that’s had to complete a medical exam for insurance knows how annoying it can be. Two of Waffle’s founders abandoned getting life insurance because of appointment-scheduling issues, and we know we aren’t alone.
Haven Life offers a no-medical-exam product that immediately stood out to us. It's also issued by C.M. Life Insurance Company, which is a subsidiary of MassMutual.

Why can't I sign up directly from the Waffle app?
Unfortunately, this is the only integration currently available for the product.
We’re working with our partner to change things though, as strive to bring you a seamless customer experience.

Renter's Insurance
Who's your Renter's Insurance Partner?
Our product is administered by Boost Insurance Agency, Inc., and underwritten by Markel American Insurance Company.
How much Contents Insurance should I get?
The amount of coverage you need should be based on the total value of your possessions. Before you get Contents Insurance, it’s super helpful to put together an inventory of all your belongings with an estimate of their value. It’s also worthwhile to take photos of everything.
The average two-bedroom apartment has around $36K of contents(1), but that figure can vary significantly (especially if you hoard vintage trading cards). People tend to underestimate the total value of the things they own.

How much Liability Coverage should I get?
This is a little harder to gauge than your Contents coverage estimate. A typical Renter’s Insurance policy will include $100,000 of liability coverage, which prepares most renters for standard liability exposure.
Our product’s coverage goes up to $300,000 though, in case you’re looking for greater piece of mind.

Are my computer and phone covered?
Absolutely; all your electronic devices are covered. They’re still subject to certain limits, though ($500 in the base policy). If you have a particularly valuable computer or phone, it’s a good idea to add them as separate, named items.
Are my things covered even while outside my home?
Yup. Coverage for personal property and liability travels with you, so feel free to bring your lava lamp to your friend’s 90’s throwback party.
Is my stuff protected in the event of a flood?
Flood protection is excluded from the base policy. It’s possible to add floods to the list of covered events, however, using the policy add-on options (specifically the Flood Coverage Endorsement).
Does my landlord's policy cover my things?
No. Your landlord's insurance covers the building’s fixtures and fittings (basically anything that won’t move if the property was turned upside down and shaken) but it almost never covers your personal belongings or liability.
Can I just get contents insurance?
Nope. You can either buy Liability Insurance as a standalone policy or Liability and Contents Insurance together.
How long will my claim take?
We’d love to give a more helpful answer, but it depends on the nature of the claim.
We’ll keep you updated as your claim is processed, but please don’t hesitate to contact the Waffle team if you have any questions, in the meantime.
