Introducing Pet Insurance

December 2, 2020

Waffle has partnered with the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance Program(1) to bring you amazing Pet Insurance.

Pet Insurance protects you from vet bills when your dog or cat becomes ill or gets injured in an accident. With the average Pet Insurance claim totaling over $1,000(2), having insurance lets you focus on your pet’s well-being and worry less about costs.

We can cover any Cat or Dog older than 8 weeks, with an owner living in the US.

Why We Choose the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance Program

When our CEO was buying Pet Insurance for his Dog, Ser Jorah (yes, of House Mormont), he chose an ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance policy. Not only was it an amazingly comprehensive policy for an excellent price, it was also backed by an established insurance company and a brand he admired.

Given the history, there was only one Pet Insurance partner we could have!

A Brief Overview Of The Protection Offered For Your Pet

In many ways, Pet Insurance is similar to Health Insurance. The biggest difference has to be paying all costs upfront, with reimbursement coming later(3). ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance plans will reimburse you for services rendered by any licensed Vet in the US, US territories, and Canada.

The plan choices available include an option to cover exclusively accidents, as well as a more comprehensive version, which also includes insurance for illnesses.

Accidents include the most common ways your pet may injure themselves: animal bites, broken bones/teeth, ligament tears, bloating, and lacerations, as well as burns, bee stings, toxins/poisoning, and object ingestion. Covered illnesses include infections, allergies, diabetes, cancer, congenital/hereditary illnesses, hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism, and behavioral conditions, to name a few.

You also have the option to add Preventative Care for just a bit more per month, which will include measures you can take to stop your your pet from becoming ill in the first place.

There are no physical exams or vet certifications before enrollment. Your quote won’t be impacted by your filing claims history, either. Unfortunately, pre-existing conditions aren’t currently covered.

Buying Pet Insurance Through Waffle

After you’ve selected Pet Insurance on the product screen, you’ll have to answer a few questions about your pet, providing its name, breed, age, sex, and whether it’s spayed/neutered. This helps us understand more about your Pet so we can provide an accurate quote.

You’ll be shown a number of options for your policy. These include:

  • Policy Type (Accident Only or Accident and Illness).
  • Annual Maximum Reimbursed.
  • Annual Deductible.
  • % of Every Claim Covered.
  • Whether you want to include Preventative Care.

As you make changes, your quote will be updated in real time. Once you’re happy with your choices and accept the terms and conditions, you can proceed to payment.

Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive emailed information from the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program about your policy.

Claims can be submitted via the ASPCA® Pet Health Insurance program's Member Center. The Member Center can be accessed from the Waffle home screen, using the claims section (your Waffle login details will work).

In Conclusion

When you think about protecting everyone you love, your Pet should absolutely be included. We hope you like your pet insurance as much as our Founder does!
